Friday, October 25th, 2019
8:00 am - 11:30 am
Instructor: Dr. Brock Rondeau
Dentists in the future must consider restructuring their practices towards helping their patients achieve optimum health. This is accomplished in 3 ways.
70% of children have a malocclusion. Over 95% of children treated early with functional appliances can be done without the extraction of permanent teeth or surgery.
35% of the adult population has TMD. TMD must be treated prior to any restorative, prosthetic or orthodontic treatment.
50% of the adult population snore and 20% have sleep apnea. Oral appliances are much better accepted by the patients compared to CPAP.
Technology Driven Smiles - Powered by Aligners
1:00 pm to 2:30 pm
Instructor: Dr. Thomas Shipley
New technology is changing orthodontics. Dr. Shipley will share how this new digital intelligence can increase clinical efficiencies, reduce treatment times, and achieve patient satisfaction.
Upon completion of this lecture you will:
Understand the benefits of obtaining a Class I Platform prior to clear aligner (or fixed appliance) therapy to reduce number of aligners needed and overall treatment times
Be able to expand the number of aligner cases treated and reduce interproximal stripping dramatically
Learn the benefits of Attach-Less aligner Treatment
Common Sense Diagnosis Leads to Good Case Finishing
3:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Instructor: Dr. Mike Lowry
Once a good set of records have been obtained, the challenge for us is to formulate a good diagnosis. Case finishing begins at this stage. A careful look at how we successfully diagnose cases can lead to great results.
Diagnosis should include the following:
Cephalometrics and radiography
Teeth and Soft Tissues

Pre-Aligners & Treatment Options
8:00 am to 10:00 am
Instructor: Dr. Duane Grummons
Today, many patients prefer clear aligners rather than fixed braces to achieve straighter teeth. Clear aligners can be utilized in Class I skeletal cases with moderate crowding. By using pre-aligners (functional orthopedic appliances) Class II, Class III and more crowded cases can be converted to routine cases suitable for clear aligners as finishers. Pre-aligners can correct transverse, vertical, antero-posterior problems, overjet, overbite, and molar distalization much more efficiently than clear aligners. Patients and clinicians both benefit from superior results while significantly reducing the number of clear aligners.
Youth Airway: Problems & Resolutions
10:30 am to 12:00 pm
Instructor: Dr. Duane Grummons
American Dental Association policy statement in 2017 states that dentists must screen and treat to attain an ìoptimal physiological airway and breathing patternî. Nasal breathing, functional airway, and restorative sleep trump all therapies and precedes malocclusion correction. Dento-facial orthopedics is optimal during early childhood well before permanent teeth have erupted. Appropriate treatments will help correct/manage breathing and sleep disorders, mouth breathing, habitual snoring, teeth grinding, bed wetting, aggressive behavior (ADHD), altered jaw growth, and learning disabilities. Orthopedic growth of the maxillo-mandibular complex allows for the best jaw development with nasal airway and proper tongue posture/function. It is better to shape the childís developing facial structure to optimize functional breathing and sleep capabilities, than to repair them as adults.
AirwayCentric® Considerations in Orthodontics
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Instructor: Dr. Michael Gelb
Airway and breathing influence growth and development and are well referenced in orthodontic journals. Unfortunately, modern orthodontics in the United States has largely ignored both the Airway and TMJ and at times compromised both. AirwayCentric® Dentistry links dentistry and Functional Medicine to address root causes of cardiovascular disease and dementia by reducing inflammation, oxidative stress and sympathetic activation. Dr Gelb will share his experience on Airway and Orthodontics
