The Carriere bracket is considered to be a passive bracket due to the fact that there are no ligature ties. Therefore, the teeth will straighten faster due to lack of friction in the bracket slot.

To convert the bracket to an active one that helps increase the tip and the torque of the crown and the roots which is the key to case finishing, the Carriere brackets require an additional archwire to properly finish cases.

The archwire slot .022 x .028

New CNA archwire .021 x .027

Archwire developed by Dr. Nanda (University of Connecticut), CNA Connecticut Nanda Archwire. CNA Beta Titanium 40% as stiff as stainless steel. The .021 x .027 archwire is necessary to finish Carriere bracket cases if you need more torque and more tip after you take periapical x-rays near the end of treatment. This archwire (.021 x .027 archwire in .022 x .028 archwire slot) there is so much friction you will be unable to move the tooth along the archwire. All you can expect is to increase the torque and the tip that is built into the archwire slot.
