Treating Very Prominent Incisors
Hi, I have a 9 year old male patient who's mom complains that he bites off his food from the side of his mouth and has a hard time eating. She wanted to know what was wrong. As it turns out, he has very promenient mx central incisors (see ceph tracing) and a deep bite. Because his wits appraisal is 1.2 and has moderate crowding, here are my questions:
1) Because mom/patient is not aware of a thumb sucking or tongue thrust habit, could this type of severe flaring occur naturally?
2) If not is it better to put in some sort of habit breaking appliance first? Or should we expand the mx first?
3) Mom is on the fence about any treatment at this time because the patient may not have great compliance. If that's the case, could we just do posterior composite build-ups in the time being and wait until age 12 to do braces? Would would be the consequence of waiting?
Thank you!
