International Association for Orthodontics
Dr. Rondeau is a past president and senior instructor for the IAO and recommends all course participants become members of this organization, which is designed to fight for the rights of general dentists to offer orthodontic services to their patients. The IAO has been assisting general and pediatric dentists for the past 40 years.
Dentists are encouraged to continue their education in orthodontics and to try and move up the tiers of membership.
The following are the four tiers of IAO membership:
Tier 1 - Associate
This is the entry-level of membership for new IAO members.
Tier 2 - Active
This is the next step up the ladder and requires the member to submit Tier Advancement Application and proof of participation in 150 hours of continuing education programs in orthodontics.
Tier 3 - Fellow
Members achieving this level should have a minimum of 300 total hours of orthodontic education and have begun providing this service to their. The Member should contact an IAO Certified Instructor in their region to present 5 completed orthodontic cases for examination.
Tier 4 - Board-Eligible
A member seeking to achieve this level of membership must have completed 500 hours of orthodontic education and must present 5 additional completed cases, for a total of 10 to examiners for review.
At this level, it is anticipated that the Member will be seeking Diplomate (Board-Certified), submitting cases of Diplomate quality.
Dr. Rondeau achieved his Diplomate Status in 1988 (Board Certified).
